We waited until noon for the rain to stop, but while walking out of Cuba it started up again. We ducked into the McDonald’s to let the worst pass and ate some lunch. We continued under cloudy skies and occasional drizzles. It was still wet and cold but we really wanted out of Cuba. It is a sad little town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We walked 9 miles to the trailhead. The snow covered mountains were beautiful and the quiet country road was like a breath of fresh air. The creeks along the side of the road were full of rainwater. The first 5 miles we’re on a nice paved road. The last 4 were on a terrible road that had turned into sliding mud and huge puddles of water. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

First time camping on snow!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

We set up camp in the snow with Greg and Hilight nearby. This was my first experience with camping on snow. It is definitely cold, and I’m thinking I need a better sleeping bag. This Enlightened Equipment Revelation quilt just isn’t cutting it. There isn’t enough down in it or something even though it is rated for 10 degrees. Hilight really likes her Western Mountaineering bag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We met Greg in the restaurant in Cuba, and I met Hilight somewhere before but I can’t remember where. They were both good company and we visited until the sun disappeared and it got too cold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
