Pat had to mail something so we couldn’t get out of Lordsburg until 10:30.\u00a0 By then it was already hot and we had to ascend a huge, shadeless alluvial plain as we head to the Burro mountains.\u00a0 It is supposed to be 87 today, and this area looks like death – flat,\u00a0dusty, and dry.\u00a0 Even the weeds crunch as you walk on them and the sun is relentless.\u00a0 We were so grateful it was a windy day to keep us a little cool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We ascended to a valley in the Burro Mountains and hiked up the wash to Engineers Windmill where we camped.\u00a0 The water was excellent but we made the mistake of opening the valve on the tank too much and ended up with floaties.\u00a0 We cowboy camped on our first grassy spot!\u00a0 This is a really nice spot down in a sandy wash with some shade near the rock walls. It is early evening and cooling down.\u00a0 I love places like this.
